For qualified installers

Qualified to MCS-certified - done with you

Passing the exam makes you qualified. Becoming an MCS-certified installer takes five more applications - each easy to get wrong, and expensive when you do. We take you through all five, in the order that works. From £299.

Before we start

You should already have (1) passed the RPL Level 3 ASHP knowledge exam and (2) completed your course requirements. Not there yet? Start with the exam prep →

What the process costs (and what's not our fee)

Only our consulting fee (from £299) is ours. The figures below are paid directly to external bodies (Companies House, insurers, your QMS provider, the consumer code and the MCS certification body). They are indicative, incl. VAT, and set by those providers.

ItemBasisCost
Company setupone-off£100
Insuranceper year£500 – £900*
QMS softwareper year£750
Consumer Code - joining feeone-off£120
Consumer Code - membershipper year£358.80
MCS registrationper year£996

Estimated first-year total roughly £2,825 – £3,225 (one-off £220 + recurring, incl. insurance). *Insurance varies with cover level, turnover and claims history. Figures subject to change by the relevant provider. Knowing the costs is the easy part - the consultation is for the part that is not: knowing what each body wants, and in what order.

What we don't do

MCS involves three assessments: an onboarding call, a desk assessment and a site assessment.

We prep you for the first - the MCS Installer Onboarding (Call Assessment). Your package includes our MCS OBC Assessment guide, which writes every likely question and answer in your own business's terms.

We don't carry out or prepare for the desk and site assessments - those sit with your certification body, not us. The best preparation for those is theory, which is what our exam-prep platform is built to give you.

Timeline

The whole process typically takes around 2–3 months, depending on how quickly the external bodies process each application.

FAQ

Who is this for?+

Installers who have already passed the RPL Level 3 ASHP knowledge exam and completed their course requirements (typically Air Source Heat Pumps, Water Regulations and Unvented G3). Consulting takes you from qualified to MCS-certified.

Do you submit the applications for me?+

No - it is done with you, not for you. We help you complete every form, but you submit them yourself to the external bodies. They have to come from you.

Do you handle the assessments?+

There are three: an onboarding call, a desk assessment and a site assessment. We prepare you for the call, and your package includes our MCS OBC Assessment guide, which writes every likely question and answer in your own terms. The desk and site assessments are run by your certification body rather than us - the best preparation for those is theory, which is what our exam-prep platform is for.

How long does it take?+

Typically around 2–3 months end to end. The exact timeline depends on how fast the external bodies process each application.
